Never been to the show before and not sure how to get there? Here’s a list of handy travel tips.
Well this Ideal Home Show was a special one for us. This year is of course our 20th year anniversary so we decided to turn things up a notch. This year we hosted a special VIP evening event hosted on both Thursday nights at the show. If you came along during one of those evenings, or any other time during our time at the show, we’d like to personally thank you all for your time and support! It has all been very appreciated and we hope you all had a fabulous time! And if you were unable to join us at the Ideal Home Show 2016 event, don’t you worry. We’d love to see you at our next event which is Grand Designs Live 2016.
Besides the wonderful VIP evening events we hosted, we had a wonderful time being back at the Ideal Home Show as their Ideal Garden & Champagne Bar sponsors. There was all kinds of new decor ideas and home inspiration tips as well as some fantastic exhibitions and products on display. We were quite taken by the display of gorgeous food and drinks selection as well as enjoying our time checking out guest talks by Martin Lewis, Craig Phillips, Katie Piper, Alan Titchmarsh, Dean Edwards and of course the one and only Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

Can things that were hot – still be cool after 20 years?
This year was notable for the birth of the first clone, Dolly the Sheep, which was pretty cool. It was also the time that the first girl band with Ginger, Sporty, Posh, Scary and Baby of the Spice Girls’ had their first hit ‘Wannabe’.
Also hitting the news in ’96 was the introduction of the first genetically modified (or GM) food to go on sale in British supermarkets. Modified tomato puree was the cause of all the fuss with some critics dubbing it a “Frankenstein food”.
The world of sport was dominated by England’s hosting of the European football championships (Euro ’96). The England v Scotland group stage match drew much attention with Gazza’s wonder goal eventually stealing the win for the home team.
Entertainment wise, carrot topped Chris Evans re-invented the chat show format with his hit show ‘TFI Friday’. Presenting celebrity gossip, the hippest bands and lad friendly guests, this unscripted, chaotic program briefly made Evans the most sought after man on TV … we’ve yet to see how he does on with his latest incarnation on ‘Top Gear’.
The big screen was blessed with one of the best British films, ‘Trainspotting’. Despite featuring heroin, needles, vomit and disgusting toilet bowls, this was the coolest thing of the year and took Ewan McGregor from nowhere to ‘Star Wars’.
The more family friendly film of 1996 was ‘Toy Story’; it being the first feature length movie ever to be animated entirely by computer. The results were quite stunning and people flocked to see ‘Woody’ (a pull-string cowboy) and ‘Buzz Lightyear’ (a high-tech space ranger) battle it out to become little Andy’s favourite toy.

Before we get into what happened at the show, we’d like to wish you all a Happy New Year! Here’s hoping that your Christmases and NYs was just as spectacular as you’ve hoped. Now we all familiar with the saying, ”New Year, new you” and sometimes it’s is easier said than done! But it’s never too late to take better care of yourself physically or treat yourself more. And what better way to get this message across than at the London Boat Show. As always, the London Boat Show remains our first big event of the annual year and usually sets the tone for the rest of the year. One word to sum up London Boat Show 2016? Inspiring.
We were treated to all kinds of entertainment, exhibits and celebrities. The star studded guest-list varied from Made In Chelsea star Lucy Watson, who opened up London Boat Show 2016 to Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville who unveiled the highly-anticipated new Sunseeker yacht model. After being treated to a wonderful live performance from The Overtones, we got down to work showcasing our Hot Tubs & SwimSpas to the masses. In between we managed to check out some of the other exhibits, including Sunseeker International, Land Rover, Prestige Yachts, Princess Yachts, Fjord, Honda and RYA.
As well as seeing some amazing boats, gadgets and experiential exhibits, we also came across some interesting people. As well as the general public, special guests ranged from the Tourism minister David Evennett to four time Olympic Gold winner Sir Ben Ainslie. Even though the event was on for 10 days, it seemed to had just flown by just like that. We miss it already, but there’s lots to look forward to this year. Including the Ideal Home Show & Grand [...]
It happens once a year (okay maybe twice a year) but our time at the Ideal Home Show Christmas 2015 in London was nothing short of fantastic! From the get-go it was a busy schedule at the event, hosted by none other than the Ideal Home Show celebrity ambassadors Katie Piper, Olly Smith, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, and Gino D’Acampo. Everything one could want to see was at the show. There was music, there was Christmas trees, there was all kinds of yummy goodies, awesome gadgets and fabulous fashionable pieces on offer. If you’ve never been to a Ideal Home Show Christmas event before, it is a great place where you can simultaneously shop for both your home and for Christmas gifts.
We had such a wonderful time at the Ideal Home Show Christmas 2015 event. Met a lot of interesting people, business was booming and there’s was so much to see throughout the Olympia venue in just 5 days. Before you know it, it’ll be November 2016 where will be doing this all over again. Fun times!
Be sure to check out the gallery below of our time at the Ideal Home Show Christmas event in London. Don’t worry if you didn’t have a chance to make it to the show. There’s always next Christmas.
It was that time again of year again where Hydropool sponsored driver, Darren Turner and the rest of the Aston Martin Racing team took to Bahrain to partake in the FIA WEC’s final racing weekend of the year. It has been a tricky year for the AMR team and there have been a number of ups and downs. The last race in Fuji was quite eventful with the poor weather and such so Turner (and the team) were hoping for a good turnaround this time. Having gained a few places up in the leadertable in Fuji, the AMR went ahead and went all out for a chance on the podium.
Read up on Darren’s account of the weekend’s hurdles in the press release below;
Darren Turner was back in business in Bahrain yesterday, finishing the final race of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship on the podium in third place, along with his team-mate Jonny Adam.
All of the Aston Martins had a balance of performance adjustment before Bahrain. Once the practice sessions got underway on Thursday it became apparent that they were back in contention.
Turner and Adam had to wait until the race to take full advantage of their pace as they both had trouble with traffic during qualifying.
“It was frustrating for both of us,” said Turner. “I was held up by (Andrea) Bertolini who was on his out lap and Jonny got held up too so we weren’t able to show the potential that we had at that point.”
After a couple of wet races the ‘6 Hours of Bahrain’ got underway beneath sunny skies and without the assistance of a safety car. Adam was in the #97 Aston Martin for the opening stint before handing [...]
Another Ideal Home Show Christmas event has come and gone and this time we were back up North in Manchester. Usually the Manchester show is quite smaller and more intimate than its big sister equivalent in London. Nevertheless there was a lot to see and do and the visitors were treated to a lovely time.
With brand ambassadors Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen & Gino D’Acampo opening up the event, alongside Katie Piper & Olly Smith making appearances too, we were treated to quite a visual celebrity feast. We also caught had the pleasure of seeing bakers of GBBO fame John Whaite and Laddete to Lady/Kitchen Super Heroes star, Rosemary Shrager.
With only 4 weeks left till Christmas, being at the Ideal Home Show Christmas 2015 in Manchester was a great opportunity for some festive ideas and Christmas tips and gifts for the holidays. We can’t think of a better way to get those seasonal ideas flowing. Next stop, Ideal Home Show in London!
See some of the highlights in the gallery below. You can view more images from the Ideal Home Show Christmas 2015 in Manchester here on our Pinterest.
Darren Turner has arrived back from #6hFuji, a blistering weekend down in Japan where he and his fellow Aston Martin Racing team competing in the 6hr Fuji race in the on-going FIA World Endurance Championship. Competing alongside his fellow Brit teammate Jonny Adam, Turner managed to finish in 6th place at the end of the #6hFuji race.
After Aston Martin trying to regain a higher position on the leader-table, it was said that the AMR Team were happy about receiving an adjustment after the previous race in Austin, Texas. But this time round it wasn’t enough to push the Aston Martin Racing Team to give Ferrari & Porsche a serious run for the money…yet.
“We had a small BoP change after COTA that took us around halfway back to where we were at the start of the year,” said Turner. “We all know that BoP is necessary to level the playing field across the different manufacturers and it is a difficult thing to get right. It wasn’t enough this time but it was a step in the right direction.”
The #6hFuji sessions on Friday were mostly done in dry conditions, which was great for both Turner and Adam finding a decent balance in the car. Although qualifying conditions was deemed too dry, both Turner and Adam gave it all they could to pick up that magically fleeting lap time. Their efforts resulted in being placed 6th on the grid table.
“We didn’t have any significant problems,” explained Turner. “My first and second laps went well but then I had double yellows on lap three and a Corvette in the way on lap four so I couldn’t improve. That said, the car felt good and we got as much out [...]
We’ve had the pleasure of being at the NEC once again over the weekend as sponsors for Grand Designs Live Birmingham 2015. Being back at the NEC brought back at lot of fond memories of our times exhibiting here in the marvellous centre and this time wasn’t an exception. From seeing everyone’s favourite host Kevin McCloud to seeing our favourite show ambassadors Jo Hamilton and George Clarke. We also saw up close and personally the likes of world renowned Interior Designer Kelly Hoppen MBE, the New Homes and Communities lead at long established BRE, Gwyn Roberts, founder of Studio Bark Wilf Meynell, Patrick Bradley of PB Architects and BBC1’s DIY SOS’ Mark Millar.
Perhaps our biggest highlight of the event came on the first day when Kevin McCloud made one heck of an entrance at Grand Designs Live Birmingham 2015.
Yup. Lexus UK created an fully functioning, origami car out of laser cut cardboard. You can read more about how they came up with the idea here.
Our four days at Grand Designs had gone so quickly it felt like it had just finished when we had just began. But we won’t be too down about it as we have the Ideal Home Show Christmas shows to look forward to next month. The shows will be in both London and Manchester. Feel free to check out the gallery of images and to also click onto our Pinterest to see more visuals from Grand Designs Live Birmingham 2015.
